Just thought that I would share a few of the photos I have of Charlie, my '89 AW11 MR2. Apart from little things that I will always be working on and improving and a roll cage, it's pretty much done. The huge holes in the floor are now welded closed, the all original (read as completely shot and actually dangerous to drive on) suspension is now not at all original having been completely rebuilt with new and upgraded parts, it has some Dunlop Direzza ZII*s on it, and is stripped to pretty much the bare minimum. Enjoy!

Glad to hear you're getting a cage. They are important, ask me how I know

Nice car! I love the AW11's!
I'd love to turn one into a rally car one day.

Oh yeah, the cage is an absolute necessity for this car. It will be raced.

The biggest issue is with ground clearance. The front lip already hits parking stops stock, and the oil pan isn't much higher and hangs down below the floorpan. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about that. I'm tempted to build a skid plate in that area, but the engine compartment also relies on air from under the car for cooling.

Was "ORLOVED" written on there after the roll over, or before?

Is this an autox only build, or will you be using it for other motorsports too? Would make a really cool/fun rallycross car! :D

Before. The irony is not lost on me

It's only been to autocross so far for some shakedowns and setup work, but rallycross is definitely on the agenda if the organizers of the one near me get organized and release a date before the week of the event (seriously, this has happened repeatedly). I also kind of want to take it to LeMons or Chump Car (or AER if they expand south) even though it's well over budget for the first two. It's still ultimately a diy budget build and very much in keeping with the spirit of locost, so I don't care if they deduct laps for the bullshit factor or anything. I just don't want them to crush it or try to buy it from me at the end, because they aren't getting it. Proper stage rally is also in the works for it, but that probably won't be for at least another year and a half when I move back up to New York. The closest stage rally to me is still like 700 miles away. I'm still tempted to go to the event next year, especially since I know that the terrain won't be rocky or with chassis destroying jumps. It all kind of depends on whether I can get some rally tires on it and a rollcage installed in time.
EDIT - Funnily enough, after saying that the rallyX organizers in my area aren't very organized, I checked their site again and now there's one this weekend. I check it every week or two. I might take it out there this weekend.

Sounds like a blast!
I'm going to be doing my first LeMons race, with a team I joined, in the spring.
Also trying to talk a buddy at work into building a rally car with me, but it will be a year or more until that happens.
